Thats quite a distance from the low barracks to the church for the palisade. JW's and the new Alamo seems to be about half the distance, especially the 2004 version.

Yes Bromhead, it's a considerable distance. People just don't seem to realize that the courtyard enclosing the 'campo santo' was a 'little fort' unto itself. davycrockett, I lifted the aerial view of the Alamo from an 'all aerial view' image website.

According to Alamo legend, Davy Crockett played his fiddle from atop that turret over the main gate on the night before the battle.

That is an interesting rendition, where did you get it? The DRT's souvenir pamphlet, 1966. The turret really does resemble the one on the Dripping Springs set, doesn't it? But the north wall!

Another cool Alamo overview from the 1960's, based upon the Captain Reuben M. Potter plan of the Alamo.

what is the current condition of the dripping springs set? It's holding up surprizingly well. As a matter of fact, the Alamo set is faring better than the town itself. Terrific rains have created considerable washouts (mini-crevices) in the streets of Bejar and some of the buildings have been undermined. As to the fort, though, the Alamo 169th reenactment held in Dripping Springs over the weekend of Feb. 26/27th was responsible for a little sprucing up of the set. Doors and shutters that had come loose in some of the buildings, for instance, were reset by the living historians. But the place has no foundation. The tile porch in front of Jim Bowie's room in the Low Barrack has caved in and cracked, as the plywood beneath it is rotted out. The choir loft platform over the front door of the church has also rotted out. I sure wouldn't attempt to climb up there on a bet. Welshman Maurice Jones at the Dripping Springs Alamo set, Friday, March 4, 2005.

Long time friend and fellow Alamo buff, Mike Boldt asked me to post this photo of the Universal Studios Alamo set. Originally built for the early Eighties film, "Cloak And Dagger", the set is also seen in the "Alamo Jobe" episode of Steven Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" TV series; it also appears briefly in "Three Amigos!".
