Nef, can you post a larger pic of the Eastman watercolor? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out that you were saying about the comparison....I'm slow for some reason..

Sorry, I cannot make the Eastman painting larger, but I will try to clarify it a little more. You see the northernmost upper niche on the 'modern day' Alamo facade postcard? Well, this is where Eastman's painting ends. The wall that links the chapel to the Long Barrack was much higher at the time of the battle and so it blocks your view of the facade in the Eastman painting. I hope that this helps, somewhat.

While "The Alamo" (2004) shows Billy Bob Thornton's Davy Crockett taking a pot-shot at Santa Anna, Alamo legend suggests that it was actually Micajah Autry who did the shooting. Sadly, Micajah's shot went wild, Santa Anna made an undignified retreat and the rest, as they say, is 'history'. The painting below, which once hung in the Alamo chapel from the 1930's through the 1980's, depicts this moment in Alamo mythology.

Ok, thanks, i got it now. My mind was in low gear last night.

Notice how all of the "dead" Texian and Soldados are holding their rifles... Just like in "Gettysburg" the reb assault on little round top, the dead rebs were all holding their rifles (so they don't loose them).. Is that photo from a movie or an event?

The Sesquicentennial reenactment at Alamo Village, March 8, 1986, put on by members of The Alamo Encampment and the Alamo Lore And Myth Organization. (I am numbered among the 'dead'.) Yeah, them boys was real perticular about not letting their pieces touch the ground. The weather was appropriately overcast for the event.

Here, the Texians are beginning to assemble for Travis' line speech. That's me in the foreground, by the carronade, holding onto my rifle for dear life. While I managed to retain the rifle all right, I did suffer the loss of a very nice, brass powder flask.
