Has the limestone quarry used to build the mission ever been located? San Antonio is noted for its rich limestone deposits. As a matter of fact, the site for the presidio was chosen partially due to the discovery of this building material. The first stone church of Mision San Antonio de Valero was constructed from limestone quarried near San Pedro Springs. A 1790's inventory of the mission however, notes that the present-day Alamo church was constructed from limestone dug almost 'on the spot' along the San Antonio River. While the city has probably swallowed up the exact location of this quarry, I will continue to search for evidence of its location.

When was the Arcade built? It not an original part of the mission...is it? It was constructed around 1930 to enclose the DRT owned Alamo property and runs south, off of the front of the chapel, towards the Menger Hotel. It is rather photogenic and a lot of tourists will take photos here, imagining that it is part of the original compound.

Here's an overview of the church, as seen from the Emily Morgan Hotel. (The air conditioning units on the roof are not original.)

Don't feel too bad; when I first saw a postcard of the arcade, I originally thought that it was the Long Barrack ruins, too. Here's how the Long Barrack Arcade looks today. Interior. Exterior.

Nice one there, Bromhead.
As to the black and white photo, I'm not sure if it's SALHA, or not. At any rate, they tried to make it look like 'the ORIGINAL' cast.

Aerial view of the Alamo looking south, from a window in the Emily Morgan Hotel. In the foreground is the Alamo Giftshop/Museum, while to the direct right of that is the 'Wall of History' and the east courtyard wall. Beyond the Giftshop/Museum is the Alamo church, with the DRT Library and Alamo Hall in the distance, to the left. Beyond the DRT Library and Alamo Hall is the Menger Hotel. (Notice the acequia running behind the Alamo church.)
