This 1948 musical comedy, starring Dennis Morgan, Jack Carson and Dorothy Malone has absolutely nothing to do with the Alamo, but, as it premiered there and there's photos, that's why I'm bothering to mention it at all. Enjoy the photos.

Notice how they're all standing on the Campo Santo? It's chained off now to prevent such desecration.

Was the musical performed inside the church? No, it's a musical comedy movie that just happened to hold its premiere press party at the Alamo. Why? Who knows. Still, nice backdrop, isn't it? And how do you like those old cars parked by the Long Barrack?

Strange place to choose for a premiere press party, since the movie was´nt related to the Alamo at all. I guess it´s because the Alamo is considered a nice backdrop as you say. And it does attract attention to the Alamo and that´s great. I love these big old cars. I remember them from my early childhood in the mid-fifties. I also seem to remember another pic of the Long Barracks with the same kind of cars outside. It was a color pic, maybe a postcard. I think you posted it, Nef.

It's funny how so much has changed at the Alamo over the years, and yet so little, at the same time. Take this picture by the Long Barrack, for instance. It's true that the Long Barrack is roofless here, but were one, or all of us to go back in time some 60 years ago, we'd likely be able to find our way around with ease. The church has not changed so much and why, there's the Menger Hotel, with the Crockett Hotel in the background, standing there like old friends, welcoming us home again.

Great pictures Ned, is the top left hand side of the Facade above the window different to the way it looks today?

Great pictures Ned, is the top left hand side of the Facade above the window different to the way it looks today? Do you mean that "bump"?

Not sure what you mean by the bump Mike, it's the uneven stonework above the lefthand upper window, could be wrong, it just seems more uneven than it is today!
