It is ONE MAN'S HERO! One of my favorite movies even though it gets drawn out and boring from time to time.

Joaquim de Almeida who plays Cortina would be my choice to play Santa Anna if they ever made a new Alamo movie.

Judging by the picture, I agree with Bromhead.

One Man's Hero is a film about the San Patricio Batallion that fought for Santa Anna during the Mexican War. The San Patricios were Irish immigrants who'd settled in Texas, as well as Irish immigrants who'd deserted the U.S. Army due to poor treatment and religious persecution.

Filmed entirely in Mexico, One Man's Hero has battle scenes staged in actual old fortifications. One of the battles portrayed---Monterrey, I think---has U.S. forces assaulting defending Mexican forces in a very Alamo-like manner. This could've led the news paper writer to mistakenly mention the Alamo in his article.

While I have One Man's Hero on VHS, I don't know if it is available in DVD format.

How did you happen upon One Man's Hero, Greg? It was in and out of the theater before you could blink an eye. Luckily, I was able to see it on the big screen before it got yanked.

I was looking through the VHS section of the library (had to have been 5 or 6 years ago) when I saw Tom Berenger's picture utop a column of marching soldiers with familiar looking hats. So I picked it up, it sounded good and I borrowed it.

I have it in my Netflix queue. What could of made this film better is if they used more extras
And some of those cannon where not real they are electronicly fired and you can see the wire protruding out of the muzzle and running under the barrel.

Also, for cannons supposed be firing a massive grape shot, there is about an inch of recoil which is instantly noticed on the first and every shot...
