Country Singer Mac Davis did a surprizingly good portrayal of Davy Crockett for a 1980's "After School Special", in which he appears to a less than enthuisiastic history student who gets magically propelled back to the 1830's. Davis, as Crockett has an amusing moment when he appears before Congress with his pet bear, 'Death Hug'. "I should've known right off that something was wrong when no one else brought their bear," he remarks to his young companion. There is a touching moment when, after having taken a genuine liking to Crockett, the youngster tries to convince him not to go to Texas. But Davy is 'sure that he's right' and so 'goes ahead'.
