I'm coming in late here, but has anyone noticed that the Mexican uniforms and the 1812 American uniforms are the same, with some alterations?
Also, with all the research that was probably done, why did they matte the Alamo with that hump?
I love this movie.......always will. The pix here remind me of the bubble gum cards from the 50s. I remember 3 sets were put out. One set was one sided, no text on backside. The next was the same images with text on the back in green. The third was a different set of images with reddish brown text, obviously of higher quality. A kid's mother on by street worked in a printing place where they did these cards and I remember her coming home with a complete roll of cards uncut.
There is also a scene that even Bill Chemerka doesn't know where the shot was taken. If you notice a 'split' on the full image matte shot on the right side (north wall), there appears to be an 'alley' in the middle. On the final assault there is one scene were the soldatos pour into what seems to be that 'alley'. Is that supposed to the 'breach' in the north wall?

I know the scene you are talking about. I even did a sketch of it a long time ago , because it puzzled me so. I'll try and locate the sketch. Meanwhile, can anybody do a screen capture of the scene in question?

I believe if you look closely you'll find that the shot in question is a reverse shot of the south wall -- with the matte painting of the church removed. FT

I thought it was just a shot of the south wall from the opposite direction. I think you can still see part of the palisade on the left, as well as some buildings in the background that may represent the rest of the Alamo's plaza.

Getting ready to shoot Crockett's last stand. They did a very good job on that set! Most movies shot on a sound stage, you can tell just by the way the light is or how sound echoes, but not in this movie. How did they film the scene with the Mexicans approaching in the trench?

The exterior shots of the Mexican camp, as well as the long horse chase to the Alamo were filmed at Janss Conejo Ranch, in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Oh, and there really was supposed to have been a sunken road that Alamo couriers took, before the Mexicans discovered it. So Buddy Ebsen's ride has a foothold in history.
