I just re-watched TWO FOR TEXAS today and I must say that I have softened my opinion on it, considerbly. Taken as just a Western that is set in 1836, it does not fail to entertain. True, the fidelity to history may leave some purists wincing every few minutes, but what is shown is farely well done---and fresh. For once, a new Alamo set of sorts was built outside of Austin in what appears to be the Bastrop area. At any rate, it sure does remind at least this viewer of the surrounding scenery in THE ALAMO (2004).
Aside from the styrofoam chapel facade, Alamo battle aftermath scenes were filmed in the Espada, and San Jose missions ruins, in San Antonio, giving it a shot in the arm for authenticity. And the aftermath scene is rather grisly, coming in second only to GONE TO TEXAS (1987).
The San Jacinto battle, while short, is probably the most gruesome ever put on film. Soldados are hacked with sabers and tomahawks and shot down like dogs in 'Peggy Lake'. It makes THE ALAMO (2004) carnage seem tame, in comparison. If this TNT film ever gets put out onto commercial television, it will have to be edited down considerably for violence.
All in all, I'd say, give it a shot. For me, it was well worth a second viewing.

Another view of the TWO FOR TEXAS Alamo chapel facade, currently on display at Six Flags Arlington. The arcade at the San Jose Mission, San Antonio, used as the hospital area of the Alamo in TWO FOR TEXAS. Texians lying on stretchers are seen lying slaughtered against the wall. More San Jose Mission ruins, used as the Alamo 'infirmry' in TWO FOR TEXAS. Jim Bowie's body was found here. Mission Espada ruins, San Antonio, uses as the Alamo's outer walls. bloodied bodies were scattered all over here. The mission Espada gate, interior, doubling for the Alamo's main gate in TWO FOR TEXAS.

Wern't Tom Skerritt in the movie as Houston? Yes indeed. Scroll up and read the movie's synopsis. Skerritt was alright as Houston, although he does not have a very powerful voice, as one might imagine Sam Houston had. He also wore this peculiar wrap-around beard that made him look more like President Burnett, than Houston.

Hey, I just won a rare laser disc of TWO FOR TEXAS on eBay! I'll wager that that is even scarcer an item than Errol Flynn's SAN ANTONIO.

has it ever been on TNT after it's premiere? I don't know, Greg. But it certainly deserves a repeat.

The remarkable TWO FOR TEXAS Alamo church facade, from the poster art. While the San Jacinto battle scenes are some of the most graphic yet put on film, there isn't much of a charge. The Texians are all of a sudden, just there. Kris Kristofferson, as escaped convict, Clay Allison. Irene Bedard, as Sana and Scott Bairstow, as Son Holland, share a tender moment.

Say, does Piper909 have any TWO FOR TEXAS set experiences he would like to share? His unique perspective would be very welcome, indeed.
