I wonder how the upcoming version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS will hold up against the 1951 version that starred Gene Barry? The 1951 version won the Academy Award for best Special Effects and, should you see the film, the effects hold up pretty good, even by todays standards.
While the turn-of-the-century H.G. Wells novel was set in 1890's London, the 1951 WOTW takes place in Los Angeles County in the Puente Hills, just a few miles from where I live. (Interestingly, the Puente Hills Mall doubled as the Twin Pines Mall in the popular 1985 time travel film, BACK TO THE FUTURE )
I wonder how faithful this yet to be released adaption will be to Wells' original concept? Does anyone have any current news concerning the production?
