Ken Curtis was wasted in the role of Captain Dickinson. It's almost as though he had specific instructions to play it wooden. Curtis was a great character actor and would've made an even greater Bee Keeper. All you have to do is recall his performance as Charlie, in THE SEARCHERS and the scout, in HORSE SOLDIERS, to see that his capabilities were wasted in THE ALAMO. So Colonel Davy got hisself a Spanish senorita! Haw. Haw, Haw, Haw!

Heres something interesting. Crocketts boy's were assigned to defend the paliside. So lets look at the "Deaths" of some of his boys...... The Parson......Mortally wounded by a explosion on the "West wall" Bee Keeper killed by a sword on top of the "Low Barracks" Thimblerigg (sp?) killed on top of the "Long Barracks" after it collapsed. It Do, killed ?? we actually don't see him killed. Scotty, killed while on thimblerigg's patroll . Ok, except for "Scotty, all the others were not in their assigned post when killed.....just something i would throw out for debate.. Another Crockett man who was killed elsewhere was the big guy, don't know his name or characters name, who did the feather duel with Crockett in the cantina. He was trying to fend off a horde of Mexican soldados when a couple of lancers came in from the side and did him in. That took place inside the area where all the wagons and buggys were, just outside of the north wall of the church. I never knew that till Kenny Pruitt told me. I always thought it was in front of the church somewhere.

Yeah, if you look at the wall behind "Bull" as he is being killed, you will notice that there is a gaping hole in it. This is Jim Bowie's room and some of the Mexican soldiers enter it through this hole.
Another thing I caught just last night when watching the film is the scene where Travis, Crockett and Bowie are discussing Fannin's pending arrival. (And where Travis says, "Play down the size of Santa Anna's army...say that Fannin has a thousand---no, two thousand men!")
Anyway, Ken Curtis, as Dickinson is in this scene. Look at the scalp wound, just at the hairline over his left eye. We all know pretty well by now that scenes in the film were shot out of sequence. Could this scalp wound have been caused by Curtis' hitting his head on the timbers by the cannon platform in Dickinson's death scene?
That's one thing about John Wayne's THE ALAMO, no matter how many times you watch it, you are bound to see something that you hadn't noticed before.

Maybe they´re more interested in history? I know that Eurppean kids just love the history of the wild west such as Davy Crockett, the Alamo, the way of life of the indians etc. etc.

Some of my best, oldtime Alamo friends are from across the big pond. The Golbey brothers Laurence and Ray, in Sussex, England, Mo Jones, from Wales, Kaj Andersen, from Denmark... the list goes on. Oh yeah and good old Alex, the Rebel!
