Zulu is a great movie but really lacking in historical fact. Actually there is hardly anything historically correct in that film. Having said that.....it's still a great film.
Zulu Dawn is far more accurate but it still has a few flaws. I like them both. I have the letterbox versions of both and i spliced them together to the correct time frame from the actual events. It makes for better viewing and you get a better sence of whats going on.

Jiminy! Thar's only THREE Zulu movies, right?? (Zulu, Zulu Dawn, Shaka Zulu,....anymore?) I'll say that I like Zulu better than Zulu Dawn. I couldn't sit through Shaka without getting bored.

Shaka was ok but long. It's better to see it in parts like the way the History channel shows it.

Actually, there was another (kind of) Zulu movie, the title eludes me at the moment but it starred Susan Hayward as a Boer woman in the 1840's There was a good battle scene where the Boers were in a wagon laggar and several thousend zulus attacked it for hours. I'll try to remember the title.

This makes it easy for me to find the one line in the movie that was not easy for me to forget. BARTLE FRERE: "Let us hope then, that this will be the final solution to the Zulu problem." This made me think the writer was trying to draw a parallel between Frere and Hitler. BTW, that's don our tea-stained service helmuts to John Mills (he played Frere) who passed away a few days ago.

Hi Folks Having seen ZULU so many times I just had to go and see where it was made. Here I am at the actual site where it was filmed up at Royal Natal Park in South Africa in 2003. I was just blown away by it all as I was when I paid my first visit to the " Waynamo " back in February this year. Mo.

Hay Mo, Are you on the actual spot where the mission station was located? Was there anything left of the movie set? I would amagine that the park service made them remove everything.

Yes sadly at the end of the film what was left of the set was bulldozed into a pit and burnt then the hole was filled in and of course nature did it's own thing. They also moved the river back to it's original place. It is cool to walk around there as you really get a feel for what it was like during the making of the film.
Photo 1: Taken where Fred Hitch was shot in the leg while sitting on the melee bag wall firing up at the Zulu snipers.
Photo 2: The spot where the Zulu's launched their first attack in the film and in the background is the hill where you first see the Zulu's appear in the film
All in all it was just mind blowing standing where they had filmed one of my favourite films.

Photo 2: Me standing where the final Zulu attack was launched looking towards the mission station in the film " Men of Harlech " and all that !!!! Photo 3: The spot where Stanley Baker puts a drunken Jack Hawkins on to his cart in the film.
