Tomorrow, August 17th, is the anniversary of Davy Crockett's birth. Had he lived, he would now be 221 years old.
So, what will you be doing to celebrate? I myself will be making some 3 alarm chili, while watching Disney's DAVY CROCKETT: KING OF THE WILD FRONTIER.

I went ok. I read some of the first chapters about Crockett in "Three roads to the Alamo", about how he got malaria and almost died and about his first public office as a justice of the peace. I also read the "potato story", the one he (BIlly Bob) told about in the 2004 movie. Potatoes fried in indian fat - delicious, yummi-yummi...

By coincidence, TV Land was showing an episode of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW that day that featured the founding day celebration of the town of Mayberry. There was a costumed reenactment of the founding and Andy was sitting in a powwow with some Indians wearing a coonskin cap! He really looked the part. Andy Griffith would've made a wonderful Davy Crockett. As a matter of fact, in 1986, when they were casting for 13 DAYS TO GLORY, Andy Griffith was tapped for the role of Davy Crockett. Griffith had to decline however, as his shooting schedule for MATLOCK would not allow him to get away. Too bad.
