February 22, 1836. George Washington's Birthday Fandango! Mr. fiddler, strike us up a tune! This illustration, from a 1911 novel about Crockett, features the Alamo church, complete with hump, palisade and a 'moat', with bridge.

they should have filled the trenches with water. As can be seen in this 1840's Seth Eastman painting, the Alamo acequia had pooled up considerably behind the chapel and cattle pens. Because of this water blockage, Romero's column of 300 men had to veer over towards the north wall to bunch up with the two other columns under Duque and Cos. The new Alamo film incorrectly shows soldados attacking and then scaling the back (east) wall of the chapel's apse.

they should have filled the trenches with water. Naw, it wouldn't stop the Militares or even slow them down. All it would have accomplished would have been a lot of mud getting tracked in making a mess. I guess, the more mannerly could have stopped first to wipe their feet, but...

Remember the Alamo. What ever became of David's rifle that was presented to him in PA?
