Here's a photo of the full length portrait of Crockett that was done from life in Washington D.C. in 1834 by artist John L. Chapman.

In contrast, this full length portrait of Crockett- done by artist John Huddle around 50 years after Crockett's death- shows 'Davy' as many would like to remember him, in deerskins and with a coonskin cap.

My favorite Chapman portrait of Crockett. Of all the Crockett portraits, only this one seems to let you look inside his soul. The expression seems so natural.

Frederick Yahn's "Crockett's Last Stand" at the doors of the Alamo church remains my favorite Alamo image of all time. This isn't any bold, defiant Crockett laughing at death, no, here's a Crockett who knows that he is only seconds away from death. And yet----he fights on.

PENCIL SKETCH OF CROCKETT FROM THE GOLDEN BOOK HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.Did Crockett sit for this? There are a couple of other sketches supposedly from life of Crockett while he was in D.C., but they do not look like the Chapman portraits. Don't get me wrong, I like the Chapmans, but I'm puzzled by the different interpretations of drwaings or engravings from life. George Washington looks pretty similar despite different artists and different ages. It seems one thing I've noticed is Crockett seemed to gain, or gain and lose weight.

Here's an example of what I mean. Other than the hair, this portrait doesn't compare to the Chapmans -
