Who do you think is going to win the Hockey's ultimate prize? Since my Rangers have been eliminated I really don't care who wins but I like a team with history and tradition, so I will pick Detroit who is currently leading Anaheim 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals.

What about them Ducks? ;D No offense but half the people in California have never seen a hockey puck before. I'm glad the Ducks won it becuase as a Ranger fan, we hate the Senators along with every other Eastern Conference team. I'm happy for Teemu Selanne becuase he has been playing for over 15 years and has never won a cup. That might have been his last game and its sad to see him go. Also, the Niedermayer Brothers were able to lift the cup together which was very special.

If Matthieu Schneider comes back from his injury and suffers no ill effects and Avery stays out of the penalty box, I see an Anaheim-Rangers final. Schneider can take up where Neidermayer left off on the power play and Drury-Gomez will make all the difference in the world for the Broadway Blues. One of the wold cards here though, is the Penguins. With their crew of young guys, they could make a run for it with one year of playoffs under their belt. Crosby is the REAL DEAL. I grew up watching the Rangers play at the Old Garden with guys like Gilbert, Hadfield, Giacomin, Henry, Howell, etc. and also saw the Isles in their Glory Days (had season tickets) with Potvin, Trottier, Gillies, Smith, Nystrom, etc. I'm now a die-hard Devils fan (originally from New Jersey but now live in Atlanta) but I always liked the Rangers and later, also the Isles.

From Wade Dillon's Alamo Sentry. I'm the guy who started Alamo International in the 80's, which turned into Bill Chemerka's Alamo Society. I'm originally from Bayonne, NJ and lived in Hopatcong when I was doing the newsletter. I've been in Atlanta since 1992. I saw Potvin lay that hit on to that Ranger. I was at the game. My middle son is named after Denny, but I do love the Rangers. I'll see them down here in Atlanta a couple of times this year. I already have the tickets. I see the Rangers having a real shot at the Cup this year. I am a HUGE Scotty Gomez fan. The Devils, my fave team, will be in real trouble without him. they may not even make th playoffs. By the way, I'll be in Toronto for the Hall of Fame inductions in November. I actually was lucky enough to get invited by some quirk of fate. I'm really looking forward to it. I also coach hockey down there and in 1992, we were the State High School Champs - there are 48 teans down here and two of my guys made it to the USA Hockey Development Team. I hope to see them in the pros some day. An old Ranger, Boom-Boom Geoffrion, lived down here until he died recently. He was a real nice guy. Matthieu Schneider's parents also live close by, as do a bunch of ex-Atlanta Flames.

P.S. Don't know if you're into baseball, but my wife and I were in Boston over the weekend for a wedding and we are Fenway on Friday ngith for the great Yanks-Sox game. In addition, about a month ago, I was in St. Louis (I'm a life-long Cards fan) and I was at the game Rick Ankiel came back. I also was invited to have my picture taken with the Championship Trophy in the Cardinal Club. I liked that almost as much as having my picture taken with Ol' Fess Parker in Los Olivos, CA. He's a great guy.

Whenever I'm out in SF, I make sure I go to a game. they have some good young pitchers. I have a Barry Bonds authentic jersey hanging in my closet (I collect baseball, hockey, football and BB jerseys, not necessarily autographed). I do have autographed jerseys from Carson Palmer (I am a friend of his entire family, including Carson), Matthieu Schneider (his parents live closeby), Paul Newman (on a Charlestown Chiefs "Slapshot" jersey; he has a home less than a mile away); and Jeff Halpern (he's my middle daughter-in-law's cousin). I also did quite a few Sporting News All-Star Games (when I was with corporate America) with Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal.

Gee, I wonder who this could be...missed you the last time I was on the coast. I was actually around your old "digs' last time out. Not going back to L.A. until December 13th-19th, but you won't be there anyway! How's Frank managing without you to keep him in line...say hello to The Grone and Kinky for me if you see them. Hope you got out to New Braunfels for some of that barbecue and try to catch Gary P. Nunn if he's playing over at the Broken Spoke in Austin - a great experience...Hope you love it in Tejas...it's gotta be a dream for you.

Sounds good bucko! The giants definately have the arms but NO offense. Matt cain has 15 losses with an era of 3.50. unnacceptable!

Cain is a VERY GOOD pitcher and he deserves better. I've seen this guy close up and he can bring it. He WILL be a 20 game winner some day. History is full of guys losing a lot of games, switching teams or getting some RBI guys and then they're winners. Look at Josh Beckett on Boston, as a current example. Once Bonds leaves next year, SF will be forced to sign some big hitters to keep the attendance up.

Bonds HAS to leave in order for this team to completely rebuild. I love Barry but enough is enough! Time to go. Giants have to try and sign A-Rod next season. He said he loves San Fran and would love to play there. All the giants need to do is fill kids around him and they'll be successful.

I agree. A-Rod would be perfect for SF, but he's no kid anymore either, although he's at the top of his game now.. But then again, he'd be perfect for a lot of teams - what about Boston? They love to boo him out there but I saw from the reaction at Fenway last Friday night (I was there), that that could turn to love very easily. Barry is just taking up a roster spot and while he is still one of the most feared hitters in the game - when he plays - he can't field or throw anymore. Hard to believe he was one of the best outfielders to ever play the position, but time has a way of slowing you down. Bottom line is the Gints have to spend money or beef up that farm system - quick.

They actaully have a pretty good farm system with som fast, offensive players (who can actually field). The problem is, the team is loaded with vets which puts Bruce Bochy in a bind. He wants to get rid of the vets and play the kids but if he doesnt play the vets, no other team will want them...

You're right. A conumdrum, but things have a way of turning around. Once Bonds is gone, the spotlight can shine on others and some of these guys may come up big. Also, the clubhouse will probably be a lot tighter and that's important. As you know, in hockey, it's one of the most important things-that's why they have captains and why it means so much. Bochy is a pretty smart guy and he can make a winner if he gets just some of the tools he needs. That western division is wide open, except for that Padre pitching staff, which is one of the best. The Dodgers, with all those young studs like Martin, Ethier and Loney are also going to be good for a long time. There's no reason the Giants couldn't do the same with their farm system.
