I knew both of these fellows. Bill Dalpes was a double for "Mexican Bob" in TRUE GRIT. He gets shot off the horse. Dalpes got along fine with Wayne but said that Duke could never remember Bill's name. He was living in Baytown Texas at the time of his death back in 1990's. The bottle got him. That and cigarettes. Bill had a lot of memorabilia from the film but nobody knows where it went. Bill had a small gun collection originals and repros and those were donated to the Baytown Historical Museum. We shot black powder guns many a time. He was a model builder supreme and kept riding horses until the end. Bill Daniel, excuse me GOVERNOR BILL DANIEL was Col.Neil in The Alamo. He donated money and helped Wayne get the cattle he needed for the scene where the Texians stole the herd from the Mexicans. His brother Price was Governor of Texas. Bill earned the title as Governor of Guam. He was a character to say the least! I'll always remember his lines about "young Travis here...." and later telling Frankie Avalon "Well you better get down son and have you some frijole beans and a little sleep..." He passed a number of years ago.
