He's an ancestor. Born in NY in 1804. Sailor by trade. Parents names or siblings uknown. Came to Anahuac Texas in 1831. Listed in 1834 census.Joined the Liberty County Company March 6, 1836. Was assigned to guard camp at Harrisburg but joined the battle after it started. Received bounty and donation land grants for service.Married a widow w/a daughter around 1840. That daughter was my great great grandmother. Wm A. Smith was possibly related to the child's natural father. Regardless, he received a land grant on east bay bayou in Chambers County. He was a 3rd srgt in the miltia and left Texas after 1850 for the gold rush in California. He died crossing the Isthmus of Panama.Exact date unknown. The widow and daughter had been part of the Runaway Scrape.
