Well, I'm a longtime fan of Schilo's Deli, particularly its split pea soup, homemade root beer and bratwurst. It has a good breakfast menu, too.
The only Riverwalk restaurant I've been to is an Italian place, Paesano's. Good chow, but noisier than sin.

Schilo's Deli, on Commerce, right next door to Casa Rio Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk. Schilo's is always a favorite spot to gather during High Holy Days. (And I'm with you there, concerning the split-pea soup.)

From when I went years ago, Casa Rio had incredible Mexican food, enormous portions, and a very affordable prize. We ate there two of the four nights we were there. Went to Schilo's Deli fore breakfast per Rick's suggestions, and had lunch twice at the Alamo Cafe, which was awesome. They make their own tortillas and serve them warm with pads of butter if I remember correctly. I would fly all the way to San Antone to taste that again.

Odd, but for a place that relies so heavily on out-of-state tourist traffic I've found that the Casa Rio has just about the best chile relleno in town...so much so that when the wife and I had our wedding reception in their Texas Room (after the wedding in The Little Church of La Villita), the chile relleno is what we had served.

Casa Rio in 1951. My favorite restaurant along the Riverwalk one year before I was born.

Good news for lovers of gelato. The old GM Steakhouse location on Alamo Plaza has been remodeled into a really nice-looking gelato and ice cream parlour. Come and get your love.

There were at least 4 servers hovering over your table with skewers, while a couple others kept the drink glasses filled. My favorite cut was the round steak.

You'd think any restaurant that close to the Alamo would use Bowie knives for its at-your-table meat carving. I've never had gelato. What the hell is it anyway?

I was very frustrated that Bohanan's does not offer their supper choice at the bar, as I was awaiting my first Bohanan's meal. That took them to two celebrities right away, and it forced me simply walking next entrance to The Hand where I realized I could have supper at the bar.
