The United States won the gold medal for basketball. Whoop-de-doo. Uh, Kobe Byrant, guys, it's an amatuer competition where athletes of the world who are in love with their individual sport and not the almighty dollar, meet to give it their best shot. I mean, who gives a flying fish that professional athletes who make multi-millions can beat amatuer competitors?
Where the hell have the Olympic games gone to? Should we next allow the heavyweight boxing champion of the world to compete in an upcoming Olympics? If not, why not, when Olympic basketball has already lowered the bar? Should the New York Yankees suddenly become Olympic softball champs? Where is this going to end?
And, look at Olympic gymnastics now. While a perfect 10 used to be something every gymnist would shoot for, it is now considered a poor score when competitiors are scoring 18 and up.

I watched the Games off and on. A few thoughts:
-- I'm sick to death of beach volleyball.
-- Nothing against Michael Phelps, but I'm tired of him, too.
-- NBC's orgasmic coverage is beginning to rival ABC's.
-- Thank goodness we had -- finally -- a Couric-free Games.
-- I've rooted against the USA mens' basketball team ever since we started sending NBA guys to the Games.
-- Just once, I'd like to see an Olympic track event winner NOT do the flag-wrap thing.
-- At least Germany's female swimmers don't have facial hair or deep voices anymore.

Well, I guess it works both ways, but I still have to shake my head in wonder. In the Hungary vs U.S.A. water polo finals today, Hungary's team of absolutely all professional athletes beat the U.S. team of absolutely all amatuers 14 to 10. Way to go, Hungary, underdog that you truly were.

It´s so corrupted with pro´s against amateurs that it does´nt make any sense. Incredible that the Olympics can get away with it. What kinda rules makes that possible? How come nobody inside the Olympics raises the issue? Is it really THAT corrupt? The answer is blowing in the wind...
Btw, Denmark won a gold medal in sailing. Their boat was not in working for some reason, so Croatia lend Denmark THEIR boat! Now the Danish team wants Croatia to be recognized by the Olympic organization for their outstanding sportsmanship in lending the Danish team their boat. Some kinda medal or whatever, would be nice...
