After a few months of not continuing up this feature, I'll start off the year fresh. Bet you've never heard of this battle before, maybe becuase it was one of the only battles that didnt have one single casualty from each side. Date: January 3, 1862 Place: Prince William County, Virginia Outcome: No Winner Casualties Union: None Casualties Confederate: None Union Commander: Robert Wyman Confederate Commander: Samuel French Summary: In lateOctober of 1861, The confederates constructed batteries along the Potomac River. By 1862, they had over 37 cannon batteries built along the river. On January 3, 1862, the USS Yankee and the USS Anacostia shelled one of the gun batteries at Cockpit Point. After a few hours of exchanging shells, the Union ships sailed away with out a casualty to either side. Later that year in March, Union forces would return again only to find that Cockpit point had been abandoned. Union soldiers would have complete control over the Potomac for the next five months.
