FLANDERS, JOHN (1800-1836). John Flanders, Alamo defender, son of Levi and Mary (Sargent) Flanders, was born in Salisbury, Massachusetts, in 1800. He was in business with his father in Massachusetts until they argued over foreclosing on a mortgage held by a widow. Flanders left for Texas and never communicated with his family again. He settled in Gonzales and was part of the force from that town that rode to the relief of the Alamo. He entered the Alamo on March 1, 1836, with this company and died in the battle of the Alamoqv on March 6, 1836.
