Here's a curious little rarity regarding John Wayne's THE ALAMO provided to us by my
friend "findem_killem" Grimsley. Seems that some years back, while participating in a
cowboy action shooting event, Larry won a prize, which included a music CD by John
Wayne's old movie sidekick, crusty old Gabby Hayes. Not thinking much of it at the
time, Larry threw the CD aside somewhere in his garage and then just forgot about it.
Recently though, he relocated it and thought to have a look at what it was all about.
What jumped out at him was track 10 on the CD: Rememberin' The Alamo. He played
the track and this is what he heard.

REMEMBERIN' THE ALAMO
Now in '59 I just figured to go
With Big John Wayne to the Aleymo.
He took Widmark, and Boone and even Frankie Avalon
Seemed like half of Hollywood was gone.
When old Chill Wills called to say
That old Hank Warden was headin' their way.
Thought I'd better go and see
Just why old Duke hadn't called for me.
What better place for an old sidekick
When he had so many burs to lick?
I saw horses and cannon and longhorn cattle
And thousands of troops all ready for battle.
This kind of fightin' was just my style,
And that's what I said to Denver Pyle.
And because Big Duke was directin' the show,
I was ready to die for the Aleymo.
But it got real plain, real plain you see
That he didn't have no part for me.
Then, rememering how I could shoot and ride,
He said I could be on the other side.
And I wouldn't have to plead, or beg,
To be one of the many that got shot in the leg.
Well, I ended up fightin' for Old Mexico
Against all my Pards there in the Aleymo.
I ain't mad at you, John,
But just want you to know
Who it was that took the Aleymo.
