Officers of The Alamo Battlefield Association invites its members to our annual meeting. This year we will host another bus tour, during which members will visitThe Other San Antonio Missions.
All of our members have visited the Mission San Antonio de Valero—the Alamo. Yet, many have never had the opportunity to tour the other four. This year the ABA examines missions Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de Acuña, San José y San Miguel de Aguayo, San Juan Capistrano, and San Francisco de la Espada, with an emphasis on what those missions teach us about the missing portions of the Mission Valero complex. We will also conduct a walking tour of the Concepcion battlefield, where on 28 October 1836, a heavily outnumbered Texian force commanded James Bowie and James Walker Fannin, Jr. routed the centralists under General Martín Perfecto de Cos. Stephen L. Hardin, Ph.D. (Texian Iliad: A Military History of the Texas Revolution, The Alamo 1836: Santa Anna’s Texas Campaign, and Texian Macabre: The Melancholy Tale of a Hanging in Early Houston) will conduct the tour.
When: 9 March 2008. Be on site by 12:45 AM; the bus will depart promptly at 1:00 PM. For a change, members will not have to rise with the chickens to attend an ABA tour.
Be on time: Hardin will leave you.
Where: Assemble on the sidewalk between the Alamo and the Menger Hotel.
Registration Fee: $30.00 per person. This fee is payable on 9 March when you board the bus.
Meals: Lunch on your own. We will provide drinks and snacks on the bus. When the tour is finished, probably around 5:00 P.M., many of us will meet at a restaurant for dinner. We invite you to join us. Dinner, however, is not part of the tour. If you have other places to be, you will miss nothing more than our sparkling company.
Conditions:
This tour is open only to dues-paid members of The Alamo Battlefield Association, their spouses, and children. If you are not currently a member, you may join on 9 March. Annual dues are $25.00. Please note that the $30.00 registration fee also includes your annual dues. What a deal!
Seating is Limited. We will accommodate members on a first come, first served basis. Reserve your seat today by calling tour coordinator Joan Headley at 210-822-2741 (home) or 210-415-1836 (cell). Alternatively, e-mail her at ciasa@earthlink.net
