Never heard of it! Pray tell! They drop a ball in a jar when it´s time or what? Hans, you must be kidding? Surely you've heard of it? People watch it all over the world! Its not New Years until the ball drops in New York City! After reading your Wiki link I really wish I was kidding! That´s quite a big event! Strange that I´ve never heard of it. Well, over here we watch the clock at Copenhagen´s city hall. That´s traditional. But still, I´m surprised that i have´nt heard of it at least (blush-blush). I´m embarrassed! Maybe I should watch CNN next year - or maybe a TV show about how New Year was celebrated around the world...

What a great place to usher in the New Year, Hans! It must have been exciting---and COLD. Was the square completely packed with people? Ruth & Kaj Andersen in City Hall Square, 1983 (Note clock tower.)

Must be quite a sight, with all the crowds gathering.

Oh yes, It´s quite a sight and a big event! All of the city hall square is packed with people waiting for the clock in the tower to strike twelve! Then the bells tolls and a grand firework starts. It´s a very beautiful sight to behold. The rest of the population watches the whole thing on TV. After the the clock in the tower strikes twelve, a choir starts singing the familiar and traditionel New Years psalms on Tv, and most people sing along in their homes and wishes everybody present a Happy New Year. - So I did´nt have time to watch the ball drop in N.Y.
