Hurrah! Hurrah! I was born in Texas and moved to Mississippi while in grade school ( in the 1950's) and I bet I have heard that song a million times, but never knew all of the words to it. Thank you for posting it.

Personally I would like to think it was named after Jeremiah Dixon. I helped clean his grave up a number of years ago, he is buried in Bishop Auckland not too far from where I live.
