One of the more popular John Wayne bit players. Well, Hank was more than just a bit player and could even steal the show in films like THE SEARCHERS.

Back in 1986, event sponsors Dan Gagliasso, Jeff Morey, Michael Wayne and a slew of others threw a combination barbecue/auction at the Ahead With Horses Facility in Sun Valley to help get "Parson" Hank Worden his well deserved star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. There was beef and beans and a lot of Hank Worden fans all gathered for a day of fun and entertainment. Hank himself was there, especially beaming over all the attention given him and the love shown. Included in the auction were art objects, saddles and even a limited edition print of the Bart Moore Bowie Knife that was donated to the event by Bart Jr. himself.
Well, the event passed and then, sadly, so did Hank, but with no mention of a star, as far as I know. So, what happened? For all his years in the business entertaining folks, character actor Hank deserves his star, if anybody does. Hank was one of a kind and Hollywood will never see his like again. Hey "Mayor" Johnny Grant, what gives? Does somebody have to look like Britney Spears to get a star, these days?
Thank you. Thank you kindly.

Jeff Morey, one of the event sponsors, explains what happened:
The Hollywood "Stars" are issued for publicity purposes. Even though we raised enough money to pay for Hank Worden's star, Johnny Grant decided that giving Hank a star wouldn't gain enough media coverage. Several months after the event, I asked Peter Sherayko whatever happened to the money raised and frankly, I never received a satisfactory answer.
By the way, while Michael Wayne supported the effort, he wasn't involved in conceiving or actively planning the event. Peter Sherayko and Phil Spangenberger really were the ones who headed-up the drive to get Hank his "Star". Gagliosso and I were quite proud to be part of the whole affair. Woody Strode, John Agar, Dobie Carry, and Jock Mahoney all attended. I even remember having the honor of spending some time with the widow of Chill Wills. The event ranks right up there with watching Wayne's THE ALAMO with Hank Wardon, himself, present at Joe Musso's place. _________________ Best Regards - Jeff Morey

While watching Wayne's ALAMO at Joe Musso's place, Hank Warden told us that the "Parson's" death scene (seen only in the director's cut) was actually directed by John Ford. _________________ Best Regards - Jeff Morey

That was quite an experience, Jeff, watching the scope print of "The Alamo" at Joe Musso's place, along with Hank, himself. Hank was still farely lucid for such an old codger, and had much to say about the Alamo filming. He spoke as though it had all been but yesterday, recollecting how the cast had stayed at Fort Clark, about seven miles from the set. Especially nice was how Hank recited the Parson's death scene for us all, reading it from a script somebody'd provided. I also remember how, whenever Hank would appear on the screen, we'd all cheer. He got such a big kick out of that. Another highlight of the occsasion was when Joe Musso called up Bill Chemerka and then put Hank on the line to speak with him. Only Bill will be able to tell us all just how he felt at that moment, though.

"Nefarious" recalls how, at Joe Musso's, we all cheered for Hank Warden whenever he appeared on the screen in THE ALAMO. The first time we did it, I remember Hank smiled, nodded, and said in his best "Old Mose" voice, "Yup, there he is ...Frankie Avalon!" _________________ Best Regards - Jeff Morey

Nef, did you ever meet him in person? Yes. Back in the mid-Eighties. (Read above posts) He came to Joe Musso's place in Hollywood and watched Joe's 16mm widescreen print of THE ALAMO with us. It was a great experience. That's where I got my Waynamo still autographed. I also saw him again at the Hoedown For Hank benefit where he signed my program. (See above.) On both occasions, I did not have a camera along. But I think that Craig Covner took some photos. I'll have to ask him about it.
