For my 16th birthday (July 2), I'll be going into Philadelphia to the Franklin Institute to see the King Tutankhamen exhibit. This is its final stop in the U.S before heading back home to Egypt. I doubt they alow photos but If they do I'll take a bunch.

Don't forget to have an authentic Philly Cheese Steak, while there. I will but they get very angry if you call them a "Philly" cheese steak. (Just ask my Uncle) Nef, didn't you see a King Tut exhibit during its 70's or 80's tour?

There was one here in L.A. sometime in the Eighties, but I did not attend it. The King Tut treasure exhibit was really a big event and tickets were hard to come by. Even those people who got tickets recalled later how they were rushed through the exhibit in single file and could not even stop to admire any particular piece.
King Tut was such a phenomenon at the time that comedian Steve Martin had a hit single called KING TUT, while the girl group, The Bangles did likewise with WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN.

So what should you call the sandwich? Merely a Cheese Steak?

I just found out that Tut's mummy isn't actually going to be there...but they do have his daddy. Oh, well. Like father, like son ;D Btw, I have a copy of his sarcophagus. It measures 7 1/4 X 2 3/4 inches. Painted very accurately (I´ve compared it with a picture of the original). When you lift the lid, there´s a copy of his mummy inside, made of plaster or some kind of resin. You can take the mummy out and use the sarcophagus as a pencil box or whatever. I got it for my birthday some years ago...

I don´t know anything about that. The guy who gave it to me bought it in a shop, painted and all and it even has velvet underneath so it won´t leave marks on the surface (table) you place it on. If it´s the same replica that you mention, then it seems like you can buy it painted too. I wonder if we´re talking about the same replica..hmm...

Just got back from Vacation which consisted of the King Tut exhibit on July second and four nights in Lancaster Pennsylvania. This was NOT a happy trip. Ever have one of those times where anything that could go wrong went wrong? Well, that is the only way to explain this trip.
to me, the Tut exhibit was not at all spectacular especially for the price they charge. The crowds were huge and walking was difficult and it was very hard to see many of the exhibits. As I expected, photos were not allowed. When we got to Lancaster, I expected things to change for the better, they didn't. It rained and poured droplets that I had bever seen before. Then there was hail and even Tornado warnign for god's sake! When speaking to the locals they informaed us that they hadnt had a tornado threat like that in years. We had tickets to a minor league baseball game which got rained out along with the fireworks spectacular that we had waited for.
We went into the city for their fireworks show and waited in the rain along with thousands of other people for a fireworks show that was cancelled at 11:00 pm. When we left and got back to our hotel, we heard fireworks. The rain had stopped and they decided to go with the show even though there was no one left in the city! The next day while driving, I sat in the front seat of the car so I could find a radio station while my mom sat in the back. When we parked, she opened the door and reached toward the floor to get something while hodling herself up by putting her had in the doorway. I unknowingly shut the door on my mom's hands. The bones were not broken but there was blood and one hell of a bruise. Later on that day, my dad stepped off a curb the wrong way and twisted his ankle. He has walked with a limp for two days now.
The next great attraction we went to see was Indian Echoe caverns. An underground cave system with these supposedly beautiful rock formations. They didnt look like that to me. So as I was walking on the wet slippery rock, I slid down hitting my head of the edge of a rock. There's only a little bruise and a bump but it hurt like hell! I was happy just to get of Pennsylvania with my family ALIVE and am happy to be back home.
So how was your week?

Jezuz! What a birthday trip! The sights were´nt worth seeing and the whole family ends up getting hurt. It sounds like a Chevy Chase movie from National Lampoon. I´m sure you could sell the story to Hollywood. I hope all of you will recover without any permanent injuries. My week was quite boring. It´s been raining cats and dogs here so I´ve stayed inside reading books, watching tv etc. But compared to yours, it´s been a blast.

It was exactly like National Lampoon's Vacation and thats what exactly crossed my mind as I opened the door that was closed on my mom's hand. Hopefully another normal week will start on monday...

I guess this means you did not run into Will Smith, either. Glad that both you and your folks got home safely, Greg.
