From the q104.3 radio station webpage:
Led Zeppelin Reuniting?
They're reportedly performing in a memorial concert for late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Monday, June 25, 2007 Rock legends Led Zeppelin will reportedly reunite for a one-off memorial concert in honor of their late record boss before embarking on a world tour.
The band has only performed a handful of concerts, including Live Aid in 1985, since their split in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham.
But singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will re-group alongside Bonham's son Jason for a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London.
A source says, "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date."
"And no one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out."
"It has been hoped for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year."
Ertegun died in December after seven weeks in a coma following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert.

The group based their name after that heavy 1960's band, IRON BUTTERFLY, of Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida fame.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jon Bonham were sitting around a table thinking of a name for their group. One of them suggested a name when Jimmy Page exclaimed that, "That name would go over like a lead Zeppelin". Thus giving us Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin was a great band! I saw them play in the early seventies in Copenhagen. Great concert! Their first two-three albums are their best, I think...

I saw/heard Led Zeppelin in 1973 in San Antonio! ;D It was loud, Jimmy Page was hypnotizing the crowd with his guitar playing and John Paul Jones was incredible,a master of the bass and many other instruments as well! John Bonhams drum beat went perfect with Pages guitar licks,Jones`s bass and the vocals of Robert Plant! Early original Zepplin is/was the best of its kind! Their first 2 LP`s are killer and among their best! In September 1974,there was an outdoor concert in Austin featuring ZZ Top,Santana,Joe Cocker,Charlie Daniels and Bad Company with killer vocalist Paul Rogers! When Bad Company came on stage, Jimmy Page walked out too carying his Les Paul guitar, the crowd about sheet their pants! Page wailed away on his guitar during several of their songs and everybody went crazy! ;D 80,000 fans, can you imagine?! TED COLE....aka....Cole_blooded

Yes, the first two albums are great! "Whole lotta love", the first track on their second album is among my favourites. That Austin concert sounds like great fun! 80.000 people? Wow! Right now there´s 75.000 people gathered at the Danish Roskilde Festival. It´s said to be the largest outside festival in Europe. It´s been going on every year since 1971. All the big groups have been there. This year Red Hot Chili Peppers are among the biggest attractions...

i seen page and plant the year they released their blues album a couple years ago. other than a few of the new songs it was like a 1973 concert. they still had it. i think plants nephew played the bass. i had always heard the name come from one of jimmys old band mates from yardbirds said his new band would go down like a led zepplin. i snuck a camera in, will see if i can find the pics. this was in a 10,000 seat arena, hopefully they will play those again.

What´s the name of that blues album they released? And what name did they give their band? I would like to check it out next time I visit the local music shop. I´ve heard the same reason for the Zeppelin name as you did. Ah, you have pics? I hope you find them. That would be cool!

Keith Moon of the Who is the guy behind the name! The band was originally formed in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page under the name "the New Yardbirds" in order to fulfill some performance commitments booked before the break up of the original Yardbirds. Robert Plant was the singer. After those concerts the band's name was changed to Led Zeppelin after Keith Moon, drummer with The Who, suggested they would "go over like a lead balloon". On their first tour in the States Led Zeppelin was the opening act for Iron Butterfly, but after Zeppelin getting the most applause and fan adoration Iron Butterfly bowed out/split! The crowds wanted Led Zeppelin alot more than Iron Butterfly and a monster was born! ;D TED COLE....aka....Cole_blooded ;D

I read that fans went crazy after each concert and sometimes destroyed the sets and stage...

Thus giving us Led Zeppelin. no it was some guy who heard that Page was forming a new band and he said that they would go down like a lead balloon and they made it "Led" so "thick Americans" wouldn't pronounce it like "Leed Zeppelin"

There's a cover band out for Zeppelin called "Hammer of the Gods". It's not the same but they sound close and its a heck of a lot cheaper.
