400th Topic!
I lived through the Seventies, so peace demonstrations against the Vietnam War were an everyday thing on television. One thing I could never get is, what sort of peace were these demonstrators hoping for? An unrealistic, Utopian world where all people are brothers and sisters who believe in tolerance and equality, or merely an end to the U.S. participation in the war? Well, you saw the results. The U.S. pulled out of Vietnam in 1973 and that country fell to the Communists in 1975. Freedom-loving boat people flocked to the U.S by the thousands in the hope of escaping torture, death and oppression.
Now, many folks want us out of Iraq, shouting that same old song of peace, meaning tuck tail and run and the hell with the results.
So, what exactly does 'peace' mean to you? To some, "Peace" is the cessation of conflict. To others, "Peace" is the cessation of evil. For me, as long as evil is allowed to rear its ugly head in the world, there can be no real peace. Lloyd-George tried to make peace with Hitler by turning the other cheek and hoping Old Adolph would just let Britain be. It must've been a good joke to der Fuhrer to have such a cooperative victim.
John Wayne, as Rooster Cogburn once said, "You can't serve papers on a rat, Baby Sister. You either have to leave it alone, or kill it."

there can only be peace when evil is eliminated. and if you've looked around at today's world, that ain't gonna happen any time soon.
