Thirty-six years ago today. July 20, 1969, Neill Armstrong Mike Collins and Buzz Aldrin of Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. For those of you who were old enough to remember, just what were you doing at the time? Me? I was washing dishes in Coffee Dan's coffe shop in West Covina and watching the event on the house TV, along with other restaurant employees and patrons. When the lunar module set down at last, there was a great cheer from all witnessing the event. Forks were suspended by frozen hands in mid-air. For this was 'a small step for a man...a giant leap for Mankind.'

but what about the great hoax that surrounds the landing? there is no wind on the moon In this photograph of John Young readjusting an antenna next to the Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV), there is a marker, known as a cross-hair (inset) (P), that goes behind the LRV's equipment. These cross-hairs (Q), which appear on all the lunar photographs, are made by a screen of cross-hairs placed between the shutter and the film. The bright, reflected light may have obliterated the fine line of this one, or it could have happened if the image was retouched. The foreground shows what looks like the letter 'C' on a boulder (R). Is this perhaps an identification letter left on a studio prop? The letter C on the original photo is actually quite well defined and it is hard to imagine what can cause such a well-laid inscription on a boulder in a desolate place such as the moon. The tracks made by the LRV's wheel turn rather oddly at right-angles (S). These tracks could have been caused by studio technicians pushing the buggy into place. Such clear tracks and footprints require moisture to form and should not appear on the

I enjoy reading these 'hoax' theories. I was also a sucker for the avalanche of books back in the Seventies, such as "In Search Of Ancient Astronauts", "In Search Of Noah's Ark", "The Bermuda Triangle" and the 'Who REALLY Killed Lincoln and Kennedy' conspiracy theories.
As to the flag 'flying' on the Moon, there is very clearly a cross bar running through the top of the flag so that it can remain unfurled in a flying position indefinately.
Do you have more of this story to share? It is fascinating stuff.

I was 15 years old and attending band camp at West Texas State in the big burg of Canyon, Texas. Found out they'd landed after getting back to the dorm, then sat in the lobby with a whole bunch of others that night, watching Armstrong step off the LEM.
Two recommendations:
A) Read Mike Collins' account of that voyage and the whole space program in his book Carrying the Fire.
B) My uncle, a retired government employee, is a tour guide at the Air & Space Museum in Washington.

During the first Moonwalk by Armstrong I was at home watching this unfurl on our TV set! I was drawing a Submarine at the time, being between 6th and 7th grade!Drawing and reading about the Moonwalk took up my summer time apart from hiking down to the Colorado River many times that Summer! ALAMOGUY those hoax stories about the Moon landing are BS and always will be!And at that time and age in my life I was reading UFO,Monster,Bermuda triangle,Chariot of the Gods, and Bigfoot type of paperback books, Then grew out of most of those beliefs! I`m guilty though of listening to Art Bell and George Noury on late night radio!,go figure! Well Ima guessin because I have an Apple computer is why the darn smilies do not work for me anymore since the change! TED COLE....aka....Cole_Blooded

I was 11 years old. If I remember correctly, it was in the evening when he stepped out. We were home watching it all on TV. But, I also had my telescope outside pointed toward the moon, but I coudn't see Neil.
I remember complaining at the bad picture quality for such an historical event!
