Seguin, get a copy of George Nelson's book on the Alamo building. It shows what it may have looked like from it's original inception through today.

i]I was reading an article* on the renovation of an 1887 Jewish Synagogue in New York's Lower East Side in the March/April issue of Preservation Magazine and these couple of paragraph just jumped out at me:[/i] The keywords guiding the restoration have been authenticity and sustainability, emphasize architects Walter Sedovic and Jill Gotthelf of Walter Sedovec Architects. "Our goal was to bring this back not as a newborn baby, but a healthy 120 year old man," says Gotthelf, who wrote the original master plan (which was so thorough that it was followed throughout) in 1990. For her, as for Sedovic, that has meant presenting the building as it would look had it been cared for, rather than neglected, a preserved building in the true sense of the word. "Authenticity is becoming more and more rare in preservation and conservation projects," Gotthelf observes. "There is a tendency to want places that look new, to restore them so it seems like you're walking into pristine buildings, in some cases even more polished than when they first opened. By contrast", she continues, "for us, authenticity meant not erasing the history, but showing this building was used by people." * On Eldridge Street, by Diane Cole (Photo by Wade Dillon)

Nice contrast! Btw, notice the girl in front. Either she did´nt want to be on your pic, or she prefers the Odditorium and doesn´t want to look at the Alamo sign... ;D

She's a Ripley's employee who is possibly aware of all the controversy surrounding the Odditorium and doesn't want to appear in the newspapers, or worse.
