I've come across a couple of things I can use as prizes so we will be having a contest this year! I know it's early but the early stages will be in the planning now. This year, I will be making all of the questions so Nef actually has a chance this year. Keep checking for updates as the dates have yet to be decided.

What´s special about May 5? Some kind of Texan anniversary? Or somebody´s birthday?

Mexico has at least two Big Holidays: Cinco de Mayo and 16 de Septiembre. I can't recall exactly what each one celebrates.
What's funny -- and even sad in some ways -- is that Mexico as a general rule doesn't make a big fuss on either day. But Texas does. It even out-Mexicos Mexico, especially in the news media.
Equally sad, many Texas newspapers make a bigger deal out of May 5 and Sept. 16 than they do March 2, March 6 or April 21.

On March 5th, 2008 the day after the election, some local news team was on Alamo Plaza to get the opinions of passersby regarding the election results. When someone asked the news team if they would still be there for the following day, March 6th, one reporter asked, "What for?"

That doesn't surprise me we have a Roman Fort in my town and you could ask dozens of people to direct you to it and they wouldn't have a clue.

If it were locals they were asking and not tourists, then it´s really embarrassing! It´s incredible how little most people know about history! They view it as something that happend a long time ago, which has no meaning in their lives. They don´t realize that they´re the result of past history. If you don´t understand the past then it´s difficult to understand the present and what might happen in the future. But try and tell them that and they´ll look at you as some kinda nut...

Ok, I've added a search bar that can be found at the bottom of every page. BY CLICKING THE CIRCLE ON THE RIGHT and then typing in key words of the question, it should redirect you to threads that come close to what you're looking for, which should make things easier.
