For the past two years, Alamo Central has had it's contest on Cinco de Mayo where members answer questions related to the Alamo and other parts of Texas History. This year, I have decided to change things. Alamo Central will no longer be having that sort of contest. Instead, we will feature an Alamo Poetry Contest where members will compose an original Alamo-related poem and submit it to me where they shall be judged by myself and an anonymous judge. Each poem will be given up to ten points by each judge and the poem with the most points at the end will recieve the title "Alamo Poem of the Year."
At this point in time, I cannot promise a prize to the winner but I think that all of us here know and love the subject enough to do the contest for fun.
Requirements: The poem does not have to rhyme but must be atleast three stanzas long, with each stanza consisting of atleast five lines.
When the contest is over, the winning poem (and two honorable mentions) will be posted on the site where they will remain.
I think this is a fun way for all of us Alamo buffs to express ourselves and our feelings about the Alamo so that we all can enjoy their work.
NOTE: CONTEST ENDS ON JANUARY 30TH. ALL POEMS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO ME VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE BY THAT DATE. THE POEMS WILL THEN BE JUDGED AND WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON FEBRUARY 7TH.
***MUST BE A REGISTERED MEMBER OF ALAMO CENTRAL TO PARTICIPATE***
PLEASE EMAIL OR PM ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

Well, not everybody feels comfortable expressing themselves through verse. While I have quite a few old Alamo poems and song lyrics that contain 30 verses or more, each, I hesitate to post them, as I'm an assistant to the Administrator who's chief mission here is to help encourage OTHER members to post.
Inasmuch, I won't be entering the contest. Still, after the contest is over, we could maybe keep a continuing thread that features Alamo poems and songs. What do you think?

I`ll most likely give it a try Poems are nice given the subject, that is if they`re not too long! TED COLE....aka....Cole_blooded ;D

Keep in mind, the poems do not have to ryhme. (If they do it will be a bonus). That should make things easier.

Sorry to let you down Greg but my first several drafts looked more like song lyrics instead of poetry! I have to revamp my style and do something better, but the deadline! My piece is about the Gonzales 32, it will have to come in sometime later! TED COLE....aka....Cole_blooded

Song lyrics can be poetry too, Ted. Just look at the story THE HUNTERS OF KENTUCKY tells.
