Will anyone on this board be attending the High Holy Days in San Antonio this year? They begin March 2nd, (Texas Independence Day) and end March 6th, (The Fall of The Alamo anniversary.)
I will be in town from February 27th to March 8, with tentative excursions to both the Brackettville and Dripping Springs sets. Can't wait.

There's some words being bantered around, over on The Alamo Site, under the " Visiting" topic. San Antonio Alamo buff, Joan Headley will be holding her annual bash at a venue near the location of the Powder House Hill, behind the Alamo. it is a period-costumed affair and will end at dawn with a walk to the Alamo for the ceremonies on the Plaza there. Terry Todish says that some folks are trying to work out an informal get-together at a 'central location' in Bejar. Nothing definite yet, though the Crockett Hotel restaurant, any restaurant olong the Riverwalk, or the Menger might be choices. And, of course, it would be great to get a lot of costumed Alamo enthusiasts together for a mass viewing of "Alamo, The Price Of Freedom", over at the Rivercenter Theater.

March 6th is a Sunday.Thats my one off day of the week so I can make it there budget allowing. Is there a schedule of events for March 6 posted anywhere yet? Alamo author Terry Todish (THE ALAMO SOURCEBOOK) provided this "what's happening" list over on the Alamo Site. Mr. Todish wrote: Here's a list of what I know is going on so far. If anyone can supplement, please do so. Sat. March 5 9:00 - noon(ish) Alamo get-together at the Crockett Hotel. I'm hosting this, and there will be an Alamo Panel, some Alamo authors, and a chance for folks to just mingle and talk. There's a separate thread where I'm posting updated info on this program. 9:00 - 5:00(ish) San Antonio Living History Association activities in Alamo Plaza. There will be some invititional activities in the evening. Information regarding at least some of them will be available at the Crockett Hotel gathering. Sunday, March 6 6:00 The Dawn Ceremony THE main activity of "Alamo High Holy Days" SALHA coordinates the reenactor activity, but the ceremony is open to anyone who wishes to attend. 7:00 (or so) Annual post-Dawn Ceremony breakfast buffet at the Menger. A lot of folks, especially from SALHA, go to the Menger for breakfast following the Ceremony. 9:00 - 5:00(ish) SALHA reenactments in the Plaza. NOTE: The Alamo Shrine is closed during the afternoon of March 6th for the DRT's private memorial service. 5:00 Memorial service for the Mexican soldados held at Milam Park (near Market Square). Hosted by the Alamo Legacy and Missions Association (ALMA). I've heard rumors of other activities, but at this point they may only be on the level of "some Indians told some vaqueros." But as I hear of more confirmed activities, I'll add them here, and invite others to do the same. Also, a lot of folks will be in town from the first or second on, so there may be some things happening those days.

If i remember correctly, "Powder House Hill" is no longer a hill it's all level and isn't it next to the new Alamo Dome?

If i remember correctly, "Powder House Hill" is no longer a hill it's all level and isn't it next to the new Alamo Dome? Wow, it sort of brings history alive to know that. For those of you who will be attending the High Holy Days get together in the Green Room of the Crockett Hotel on March 5th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Terry Todish is going to try and set up a table for me to help hock a few copies of ONE DOMINGO MORNING onto the unsuspecting public. (If you purchase the book there, I'll even promise to add the inscription, "Signed at the Crockett Hotel, San Antonio".)

While I will be heading out for Texas this coming Sunday, the 27th of February, today will be my last day posting on this site, until my return to work on Monday, March 14th. Meanwhile, keep the flag flying and be watching the webcam (above) on March 5th and 6th. Adios!

Back from Bejar, Brackettville and Dripping Springs with a tale or two to tell. Here's a shot taken in the afternoon of March 1st, 2005 in Brackettville. Featured are: Dan "Danny" Tulley from England, Maurice "Alamo Mo" Jones from Wales, 89 years young Virginia Shahan, wife of the late, great James T. "Happy" Shahan, David (he prefers "Davy") Webb, "Nefarious" Ned Huthmacher and John "Gun Man" Hinnant. What a great visit it was under clear skies. Marshall Rich Curilla had the Waynamo soundtrack blasting over the Alamo Village loudspeakers for the duration of the visit. And he was just the person to have around for the grand tour of all the Village's 'secret' places!
