Being hemmed in was thirsty work for me. Must've been fun wearing wool in South Texas in August . . .

I'm still making up my mind and would have to see the new lighting display in person. I know the front of the 'Mo is now much brighter, which will give photogs faster shutter speeds.
I've copied some of the photos of the 'Mo with its new lights, as well as some of your nighttime shots, Ned, and converted them to B & W. Then I darken them a bit and I admit I kind of like the way they look on my monitor.
But the jury's still out until I see it in person.

WOW! Very nice work, Tom. Your interest in the subject matter is evident in each photo. And you have much more patience than I'd ever have.

I know when firing cannons in Alamo Plaza, they make them use reduced amounts of powder as a full load would shake the ground (and harm the buildings) too much.
In La Villita, do the cannons use full loads or reduced loads of powder? And, having never been to La Villita, does the gunfire/cannonfire sound louder or softer than in Alamo Plaza?
Nice photos, Ned.

You'd think any restaurant that close to the Alamo would use Bowie knives for its at-your-table meat carving. I've never had gelato. What the hell is it anyway?

The Riverwalk is an interesting trek, but given Bexar's constantly muggy climate (especially combined with summer's blast-furnace heat), I tend to avoid the Riverwalk during certain times of the year.
I've walked the place at night in December during the week of the Alamo Bowl, an unfortunate decision as it was crammed with visiting football fans. Not much room to maneuver.
The Riverwalk provided the coldest boat ride I've ever taken (December 1989) in the wake of a freak cold front that hit Bexar and even forced closure of Sea World (this was when the latter was open year-round)). Being on the water and wearing just a light jacket didn't help -- I froze.
Shot several slides, though. Hope to get them scanned and posted one day.
Ned, the Milam Sniper Cypress Tree . . . is it accessible to foot traffic? Could a brave soul risk climbing it to see where the Mexican sharpshooter that took out ol' Ben might've perched?
Nice photos you've done. Some December I hope to perch atop one of the bridges at Christmastime and take shots of the Riverwalk lit up with holiday lighting. Me and my tripod . . .

You all have some cool stuff. I inherated a movie prop flag w/cert signed by Happy Shahan and a JW picture with frame made from wagon parts of a covered wagon from the Alamo w/cert signed by Virginia. My dad knew Happy and visited Alamo Village. Those sound neat. Can you post some photos of 'em?

He does reenacting, too? As Longstreet or as a run-of-the-mill soldier?

Looks like a winner, Ned. Thanks for posting the screen captures. I've been wanting see the Bunker Hill battle depicted accurately on film for years (or at least since I read Howard Fast's novel about it). This could be it.

Ain't it so. One of my wishes is for somebody to make an accurate film of the Battle of New Orleans.
Only ones I've seen were both versions of The Buccaneer and a couple on the History Channel. None had enough extras or reenactors to make it look right.

Excellent work again, Ned. Looks like you had freedom to move around some to take photos, rather than being stuck in some roped-off spectators section. Nice perspective on several photos.
I probably could look this up but I figure you'd likely know: has the site of the actual Grass Fight been determined? And if so, is it still accessible or has it been destroyed by developers?

In those last two photos, you caught both the cannon and rifle going off in mid-ka-bang. Excellente! What shutter speed did you use?
I've used a motor drive to catch cannon fire in mid-blast on Alamo Plaza but have totally fizzled out when trying to do the same thing with rifle volley fire.
You, though, don't seem to have that problem, so what's your secret?

Beautiful shots, Ned. Definitely worth framing.
Would you be willing to send me a hi-rez version or two (hint, hint)?

Sad to see what the set's become, though not unexpected. I particularly like the second photo: nice compression effect with the zoom lens.
Glad I got to visit the set when it was still relatively intact. If I went there now I'd probably just get depressed.
Thanks for posting these.
