Ned, do they still have a piper that plays at dawn, or at another time? It used to be Bill Jones from New Braunfels.

This picture above is gone, but if I recall correctly, the area where Peggy Lake was is not dry, but a part of the Houston ship channel.
The last time I was at the San Jacinto Battleground was in 2012 or so, and I made the mistake of going in August. I took a date, who had never been there before and who was thoroughly bored with the experience. (We didn't last long together.) Although there is a concrete pathway along the battlefield, I highly recommend that you don't venture off this pathway in August or you will be eaten alive by mosquitos!! The time prior to this that I had visited the site was when I was 13 in 1971.

I'm touching base after several years away!
I remember PWBA. Also, don't forget Jim Lehrer (of the old PBS McNeil-Lehrer Report) was co-screenwriter for the 1968(?) comedy movie, "Viva Max", which is centered in and around the Alamo. Frankly, although I enjoyed both films (I was 10 years old when I saw VM in the theatre), I also dislike what I consider a trivialization of what the Alamo was all about.

Alistair Sim 1951 is still my favorite.

Well, as you live in the TX Hill Country, you may want to consider going to the Salado Highland Games (btwn Austin and Waco) in mid-November and the San Antonio HG the weekend of March 31st/Apr 1.

I see that this place is not a completer ghosttown! I was in San Francisco visiting my niece, and I attended the Highland games in Pleasanton, CA, with my niece.

I heard about the fire and thought, I'd better see what the Nefarious Ned has posted here. Well, there really wasn't much left of the site anyway, was there, Ned?

If my salvation from an execution was unlikely and I had time to say something, then I would probably let fly whatever. I don't think what the character David Crockett said in the 2004 movie was unrealistic.

I apologize for not being here more often. I've also not been able to attend at the Alamo Film Forum much, either. Work has kept me very busy in the last few months. Business travel has increased markedly.

I'm thinking about doing something different. I usually go to my brother's for Xmas dinner. I will probably do that again only this time I will wear my kilt. My sister-in-law is getting involved in her genealogy, including her maiden name MacKenzie history. And, my nephew is getting into the Jacobite Rebellion and our family connection to it. My brother and niece are still not interested in any sort of history. To them I say, "General McAuliffe"!

Caramel Turtle Fudge by Bluebell. It has chocolate chunks with peanuts and caramel. Moolinium is a close second, also by Bluebell.

Sirloin. It's beef; it's steak; it's lean...comparatively.
