Next to old Santy Claus himself, there's no other man on earth who loves Christmas more than Frank Thompson. Why not sample a little of Frank's Christmas cheer this year by giving the gifts of GREAT CHRISTMAS MOVIES and A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS? If these two books cannot put you in the mood for some Yuletide cheer, then nothing else can. GREAT CHRISTMAS MOVIES is the companion book to AMC's 1998 television special. From the first turn-of-the-century silent movie about that Silent Night, right on up to THE SANTA CLAUSE, Frank takes a peek at each film, adding his own Silver Screen Saavy and insight. It is also chuck full of photos of some of your favorite Christmas movie scenes. For movie lovers or lovers of Christmas movies, this book is a must. A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is Frank Thompson's photo-glutted companion book to Tim Burton's cult classic and contains all the lyrics to the film's songs. It reads like pure gold. If you do not believe me, then just ask Frank himself and he will tell you. Anyhow, Christmas is coming, the geese we soon shall cook, Won't you please give a gander at each Christmas book? Contact Frank at his website: www.frankthompson.tvOh yeah and if you ask real nice and leave him some milk and cookies, Frank will even sign the books for you. Frankly, you coud do no better...

Seems Frank Thompson will have to consider updating his Christmas movies book, as a whole slew of films on the topic have come out since the book's 1998 release.
One thing I really cannot figure out though, is the movie industry's continuing attempt to make Santa Claus "just another guy". He has been humanized and brought down to earth in all of the Tim Allen Santa Clause movies. Many other films too seem to feel that Santa is a replacable icon so that anyone who dons the white beard and furry hat can suddenly 'become' him. (Witness the new Christmas film coming out soon called FRED CLAUS.)
Nothing could be further from the truth. Santa is a magical old elf and, as such, an immortal. He cannot and will not die, so long as we continue to believe in him. He makes his rounds of the entire world in one night, not because he has some fancy computer, or Star Srek "Beam me up, Scotty" capabilities. Santa works his wonders through pure magic. Flying reindeer, house and chimney entering in a flash, managing to carry all those toys in one sack, it's all magic. Kids now-a-days, with their computer know-how, seem less than willing to accept the idea of magic. They have become "doubting Thomases" who require scientific, tangible evidence, before they will believe. With all of the knowledge they have gained, many of them seem to have lost their childhood innocence at too young of an age. And that's a shame. Where has all the magic gone?
