Travis, Bowie, Crockett and Mike the Bull, watch Santa Anna's troops arrive in San Antonio. You know what I notice about this photo? It's supposed to be up on the south wall. So, what are all those Texians doing in the background? The wall isn't that wide. Do you suppose that LAST COMMAND had its own ' false wall', like the Waynamo does? Could be. Maybe they are all standing on the ground? i thought they didnt even build an entire set. just a main gate and a wall and the rest was just matte effects?

Again, here's a photo of the working model of the LAST COMMAND SET. The brief shot you see of the church in the film was merely matted in. As to the above photo of the south wall, I do believe it must be a false wall at grouind level, so that all of those Texans could appear as background.

The camera tower is situated just about where the chapel should be.

one of the very few if not only alamo film that shows a funeral pyre. POF does. But then again, you'll just have to wait and see.

In this capturing the cannon scene you can clearly see that there is no chapel.

The Dickinsons inside the chapel. LAST COMMAND has graciously given them another child.

With the doors barred behind him, Dickinson (John Russell) defends the chapel with his life in one of the hardest to watch scenes in any Alamo film. I can still hear the bayonet thudding into the door.

Something I have always wondered. James Edward Grant wrote the original screenplay for John Wayne and Wayne fell out with Yates (Republic Pictures) and had to surrender the script. Yates then made the last command movie. Now, my question is, in the original script, was John Wayne to play Jim Bowie? He is the main character in the movie. I know in his original plans he wanted to do a small role as Houston. I wonder what the original script was like. In the 1960 version there are some slightly similar scenes such as Crockett blowing himself up and the Parson character.

Without his beard, Arthur Hunnicutt looked even more like Crockett. What do you think?

Courtyard wall to Mission San Jose. The LAST COMMAND set was patterned after this mission.
