Actor/comedian Joey Bishop has passed away at the age of 89. He, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Frank Sinatra were once considered the epitome of 'cool'. They dubbed themselves 'The Rat Pack' and appeared on both stage and screen together. Las Vegas was their haunt, while wine, women and song, their game. Bishop, along with the rest of his Rat Packing pals starred in the 1960 film Ocean's Eleven, about five ex-army buddies who hatch a scheme to rob 4 Las Vegas casinos on New Year's eve. Though a recent, dismal remake was followed by two sequels, those Johnny-come-lately Hollywood actors could not hope to hold a candle to the original film and it's stars. For the charm of the film was it's stars and there was only one Rat Pack. As to Bishop's televeision days, I remember having enjoyed THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW, along with the rest of my siblings. The show, a comedy about a talk-show host, paved the way for Bishop to become one in real life. With his dead-pan face and dry humor, Bishop wowed audiences on the nightclub circuit, as well as on repeated television appearences. In the late 90's Joey Bishop joined the other 'Rat Packers' for a farewell tour. The tour spawned Rat Pack tributes that continue in Las Vegas to this day. As Joey himself used to say, "Well, son-of-a-gun!" The Rat Pack appears here in the same order as on the marquis.
