The only other W.C. Fields I have is all on 16mm film. Great! I have THE BANK DICK on tape. I taped it from TV. I also got IT´S A GIFT on video and another video with four short Fields movies: THE BARBER SHOP, THE FATAL GLASS OF BEER (I love that one!), THE PHARMACIST and THE DENTIST. I´ve taped THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY from TV too. I would like to buy some of his movies on DVD one day. You´re buying them on Laser Discs? I thought that medium was outdated? Can you still buy discs and a Laser Disc Viewer? Ps.: Over here they called IT`S A GIFT for HEN PICKED. Well, that title does suit his role in the movie... ;D

Yeah, laser disc players can be bought for a song off eBay. (It'll probably cost you more in shipping charges than the actual price of the player.) Laser discs provide a clearer picture than the cheaper made CD format and are for the connoisseur viewer. I guess one of the reasons that the format never really took off, is that the discs themselves were so expensive, to begin with. On average, you'd expect to pay probably $30.00 for a single movie. Too, they are the size of an LP record and most folks would rather just conserve space in their homes. Today, you can buy a new laser disc for around $5.00. That's considerably less than the cost of a DVD of the same film. (That's why I bought three W.C. Fields laser discs at the same time. I'm not that rich to be throwing money around like that. ) THE OLD FASHIONED WAY... Is that the one with Baby LeRoy and the mashed potatoes?

I totally agree with your sentiments regarding laser disc quality it's excellent, fortunately my laserdisc player is still wiorking excellently I did buy a couple of players off ebay as backups but both arrived damaged, apparently they don't travel very well and the motor which opens the disc tray gets damaged. Regarding the cost of laserdiscs when they first came out I paid over $200 for the boxed editors cut of "Gettysburg" and about $100 for the directors cut of JWs The Alamo which I have recently been transferring to DVD.

Amadeus is a great movie! They just showed the directors cut on TV last week over here...
I currently watching 2 new DVD´s where American writer/poet Charles Bukowski reads his poems before an audience. One is called "The Last Straw", the other one is called "There´s gonna be a god damn riot in here". He writes some funny poems. You can easily find some of them on the net. If you don´t know Bukowski then maybe you remember the movie "Barfly" with Mickey Rourke and Fay Donaway. Bukowski wrote the script. And there´s a movie about his life called "Factotum" (2006), starring Matt Dillon...
