THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS AND WHAT ALICE FOUND THERE was the follow-up book to Lewis Carroll's widely popular ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

Just saw Robert Redford and Will Geer in JEREMIAH JOHNSON last night. Another good mountain man film is MOUNTAIN MEN, with Charleton Heston and Brian Keith.

Just saw COLD MOUNTAIN on AMC last night. While the Battle of The Crater, at Petersburg was rather well done, the overall story sorta dragged a bit. Rene Zelweger was quite good as a Southern farm girl. (Didn't she win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for that role?)

The final shootout between the hero (Jude Law) and Charlie Hunnum (the evil Home Guard member) seemed kind of unbelievable to me. In the scene, they are both at least 30 yards apart and yet when they fire off their Colt Dragoon pistols, each scores a mark. Pistols were made for close range and the false notion that Roy Rogers could've really shoot a bad guy from a running horse is just that---false.
For a really realistic gunfight, look to the climax of OPEN RANGE, where Charlie (Kevin Costner) and Boss Spearmint (Robert Duval) are standing off around 8 bad guys. Both groups are only about 10 feet from each other and yet send off more wild shots, than not.

I have COLD MOUNTAIN on VHS, didn't care too much for it, especially after Jude catches a .58 or a .69 ball in the neck and survives... OPEN RANGE is one of my favorites and the end shootout is fantastic....And Annette Bening, even without makeup is still a looker..

The tale end of HELLFIGHTERS, with John Wayne, followed by the Duke again, in MCQ. Wayne turned down the role of Dirty Harry, only to make this film about a "Harryesque" Seattle cop named McQ who doesn't play by the book.

NARC, with Jason Patric. He looks just like he looks in the Alamo, only he has a mustache, wool cap, altogether different clothes and no Bowie knife.

Yesterday, I got suckered into watching Stephen King's mini-series, THE STAND. I didn't know that it was a mini-series, until it was too late. The film suffered from overlong non-action scenes and too much padding. It would've made for a nice two hour movie, but at 6 hours, well, there went my Sunday afternoon...
