I really like the John Wayne version, even though it's not very historically accurate. But, i like the actual "Alamo" except for the "hump" and the second story "windows" in the chapel.
What do you think of the "New" movie's placement of the chapel being up even with the long barracks? Even though i haven't seen it yet, it still bothers me because the film makers said they tried to make it as accurate as possible...Even Waynes movie had the placement of the chapel correct...

Here's the newly constructed Waynamo set in 1958. It took a year to get it properly aged and overgrown. Here is the same set, shortly after production wrapped---blown to hell by Wayne's 'fireeater's pyrotechnics.'

what are fireeater pyrotechnics In the film, Laurence Harvey, as Travis, tells Richard Widmark, as Bowie to "dispense with these fireeater's pyrotechnics!" meaning to imply that, while speaking, Bowie was sort of blowing off hot air. It was supposed to have been an insult. Later on, outside Travis' headquarters, Crockett asks Bowie, "What does 'pyrotechnics' mean Jim?" Widmark stands there perplexed...hesitant to answer. Finally, he does, "Why it's... well you know as well as I do what it means, Davy!" "Yeah," Crockett returns, "You WERE getting kind of hot under the collar there, Jim!"

Here is the latest DVD cover for John Wayne's "The Alamo" (1960). I'll be happy when MGM/UA finally comes out with the Director's cut, just chuck full of extras. The Waynamo deserves no less!

Do you post your photos in photobucket.com? If you do, all you have to do is post the URL in the picture frame, shown above. One of the downers is that the URL is so darn LOOOOOOONG!

To me, this is the most frightening, disquieting scene in any Alamo movie. Here you have Crockett and a few of his Tennesseans about to be overrun by the 1,300 extras it took to do this shot. If you listen tight, you can almost hear Wayne as Crockett saying "I'm real sorry about all this."

I got the directors cut on VHS and paid only $5.00 at a department store in North Platte. Now i see it go for over $50.00 on ebay. Hay Nef, i like that color shot of the aftermath in JW's Alamo.
