Thanks, Rebal. Those movie stills really help gear me up for the showing of the Waynamo in San Antonio, this coming October 5th. Anyone else going?

Is the 162 min. version of The Alamo (1960) the longest one and the one to buy? Anyone?

Nope, it is the short version---the one that was released in America. While a good, clean widescreen copy, some scenes have been cut due to film breakage. I wish that Rob Jones, the owner of the print, could have the missing footage restored. Back in 2005, at the October showing inside the Alamo compound in Brackettville, Rudy Robbins was complaining that many of his scenes were missing.

Because the print still exists, Alex---as do a handful of participants from the filming. Rudy Robbins, Dean Smith, the Champions...all are not exactly getting any younger---and neither are we!

Oh, did I already mention that Rob Jones will also be showing my 35mm original trailer for THE ALAMO? Now that's a rarity.
Rob says that he may also be showing a print of THE ALAMO (2004). It will be nice to contrast both films on the big screen, yes?

Is that the only dvd version available, this short one at 162 min.? I´m planning to buy the movie and I would hate to buy the short version if a longer one is available...

The Longer "Director's Cut" version is only availible on VHS. Rich Currilla explained when I visited him that if the missing scenes were transferred onto DVD, the quality was so different becuase of the clearness of DVDs that you would be able to tell which scenes were in the Director's cut. Since VHS quality isn't as good, you don't notice the change in scnes as much.

I see. Thanks, Davy! Since VHS is on the way out in favour of DVD, I better go for the DVD short version - unless I can find a cheap copy of the longer VHS version. I´ll see what Amazon has to offer...

The Director's Cut is about 40 minutes longer, I believe.

The battle scene is in its entirety except for about a five second piece when Dickinson is killed. In the original, after Dickinson is killed, the camera cuts away quickly, but in the DC, the Camera waits on Dickinson after he is killed for about three seconds. Why they did this is beyond me. Nef? check www.imdb.com for more details. This is site is amazing!

Nef? check www.imdb.com for more details. This is site is amazing! Glad to hear that they left the battle scene intact on the DVD version! I´ve read some of the reviews on IMDB. One reviewer said that a vital scene is missing on DVD. Namely the scene where the 32 from Goliad arrives. Many reviewers thinks that the DVD version is way poorer that the Directors Cut on video. I´ll check Amazon for the video version. If they don´t have it I´ll have to settle for the DVD version...

Correction: The 32 came from Gonzales, of course - not Goliad...

Correction: The 32 came from Gonzales, of course - not Goliad... In the night scene, Juan Seguin brings in a couple of wagon load of Tejanos and tells Bowie, "We picked up some men from Gonzales along the way."
