the set looks pretty run down. Yes, and it made it seem all the more realistic. It truly was "a fortress all in ruins that the weeds have overgrown."

The Waynamo,March 2005, looking particularly spooky. Photo: Danny TulleyThose trees were not there the last time i visited there. Back in 1992. Nef, is there any plans for any new filming at alamo village that you know of? Usually, they had a list of up-comming shoots in the musueam, when i was there, it was "Lonesome Dove" and "Gun Smoke" (their elder years) with James Arness and Michael Lernear (The mom from the Waltons).

Don't know of any pending filming plans at the Village. That's about the only time the Alamo ever gets a decent facelift. Mrs. Shahan does see that the cracks are patched up and the walls supported by cable, but it would be a major undertaking to restore the set to even a bit of its former glory.

According to the Clark/Anderson book on Wayne's "The Alamo", 1,800 extras were used to shoot this final rush on the chapel scene.

where are the texans behind the barricade. Good eye, Greg. This is a behind the scenes shot and you can see some of the film crew members milling about. I'm guessing that the Texans behind the barricade may've been filmed separately and then the two pieces of film were later spliced together. You may also notice how, after Crockett blows the powder magazine, there are no soldados to be seen anywhere, when moments before, they were crowding through the door. (Safety first! )

Heres something interesting. Crocketts boy's were assigned to defend the paliside. So lets look at the "Deaths" of some of his boys...... The Parson......Mortally wounded by a explosion on the "West wall" Bee Keeper killed by a sword on top of the "Low Barracks" Thimblerigg (sp?) killed on top of the "Long Barracks" after it collapsed. It Do, killed ?? we actually don't see him killed. Scotty, killed while on thimblerigg's patroll . Ok, except for "Scotty, all the others were not in their assigned post when killed.....just something i would throw out for debate..

When John Wayne and the boys are wading through the river for the raid on the big cannon in THE WAYNAMO, they happen by some flamenco players in performance. That scene was meticulously recreated from the famous John Singer Sargent painting, "El Jaleo". See if you can remember the scene... The wall still exists today, in Fort Clark.
