Mount 51's gun crew on board the USS Iowa BB61. The reason i'm not in the photo is because i snapped the photo. The gun required that many sailors to crew the gun and there where 13 more below in the handling room and waaaay down in the bowels of the ship there where 20 sailors manning the deep mags. On the books there where supposed to be 101 sailors manning all the stations just for one mount. mid 1984

A MKII PBR escorting us thru the Panama Canal, there where about 10 of them along with SWIFT boats. 1984

One of the SWIFT boats that escorted us. The SWIFT was designed to be a more deep water craft than the PBR but it was used as a riverine boat also. 1984

Reenlisting next to Turret two (that was the turret that exploaded and killed 44 sailors and i was good friends with two of the killed. I was a 2nd class Petty Officer then (E5) 1984
