Those walls are incredibly realistic! Must have been painstaking work....

Great diorama so far! I like that you can see each and every stone in the buildings. It adds to the realism! The same goes for the doors and windows. Well done, Nef!

Just built the lunette today. Note: Both the lunette and palisade are going to lose at least 25 percent of their height, once the terrain is applied to the baseboard. Both will be 'packed with earth' and have a firing step.

The lunette looks great! Same principle as the palisade with two rows of timber and earth in between. That should make them bulletproof. If they lose at least 25% of their height due to the terrain, will the terrain not spill over into the gate? It seems like 10% would be enough to cover the ground with "terrain". On the other hand, what do I know? I´ve never build a diorama...

Naw, I'm just going to pack the earth on the outside of the timbers and also add an irrigation ditch and bridge. The ground on the inside of the lunette will remain the same height.

By the way, do you still have the Waterloo diorama, Mike, or at least photos of it you can post? Sorry, when i quit working on it after what seemed to be 20,000 man hours, it sat in the spare bed room for a few months. I was hoping that i would return to finish it but the burn out was deep. I ended up giving it away..

Well, at least it went somewhere where it was hopefully wanted. My old Alamo diorama got busted up and uncermoniously dumped into the trash.
I'd been preparting to move and had no real place for it, so I thought I would just try and remove each building and then pack it separately. Surprize! The buildings crumbled beneath the chizel and hammer. Demoralized, I just removed all the figures and then went at it with the hammer.
In retrospect, I wish I had saved a few portions of wall. I do have a few fragments that I intend to work into the new diorama, though.

Looking good Ned.. what are you using to score the balsa? Well, it's not balsa, it's cedar, covered by a thin coat of Plaster of Paris. After drying for about ten minutes, the plaster is scored with an Exacto knife.
