If it wasnt for them, who would keep history alive?

If it wasnt for them, who would keep history alive? True. Hey Mike, did you ever have to deal with any farbs? Were they shunned at reenactments, or were the organizers just glad they had a good turnout?

I thought "farbs" are people who mix modern clothing with their impression, signifying that they're just not all that concerned about keeping true to period.

I see, they are not allowed at least at the reenactments i have attended. Minor exceptions where made here and there. If the person had minor uniform flaws it was usually over looked but i mean minor flaws. We tried to be as accurate as possible, visually, we kept the coolers and beer and soda cans out of sight untill after the battle in which the camps where closed to the public. I think most of the farbs are individuals and don't belong to any group and wanted to participate but maybe they couldn't afford some of their kit. There is the opposite to the Farbs too, the ones who take it waaaaay to seriously. I watched one "officer" scream at one of his men for not wearing the correct underware and sent him packing, he eventually returned wearing the "Correct" skivies.

A good book about Civil War re-enacting -- where I first encountered the word "farb" -- is Confederates in the Attic.

Do they have reenacting of any kind in Denmark, Seguin? It would certainly not be hard to find a decent backdrop, as there is so much history surrounding you there, anyhow. I think we have some. I know there´s a group who does American Civil War reenactment (believe it or not!) and there are groups who does viking plays every year. Maybe I should do a Google search...

I know that, back in the 1980's, there was an Alamo reenactment done in Wales on large scale. Thousands of French Napoleonic reenactors portrayed the Mexican army, while a mountain man group stood in as Alamo defenders.
While both sides had plenty of period artillery, the fort itself was stretched canvas, painted to look like adobe walls. There were also a few portable palisades. Too bad that they could not just have used the ruins of an old stone castle to represent the Alamo. It might've added more to the realism.
I only saw photos of the event that some one had brought to one of Joe Musso's early Eighties get-togethers.

American civil war reenacting in the UK is almost as popular there than it is here. I have heard several years ago that they did the battle of Gettysburg (i think) Which they had over 100,000 paticipate.
We have them here which we call a "National Event"

I'm sure it is availible through one of the Pennsylvania regiment's websites...

I'm slowly working up a 79th NY Cameron Highlanders outfit. The kit I'm working on would technically be prior to Civil War as I intend to wear the kilt. I already have the Cameron of Erracht kilt, the hose, and I know who can get the sporran made to specs. I had a maker for the tunic lined up, but they disappeared. There are a couple of re-enactment groups that I can contact for more details to get to get links to the right makers. I know, I know, this is a "Union suit", but my family were northerners at the time of the Wah-wuh. Plus, I live 6 weeks out of the year in NY, so it's like a second home for me. The trouble is, I have no such re-enactment group in TX to associate with.

Found it, but the $30.00 price tag is a bit much. www.fcsutler.com/fctapes.asp

Nice! It looks to be a break in the action, though. Some guys are just standing around. And what's that little girl in period dress doing there, on the left? Is she the 'little drummer girl'?
