In those last two photos, you caught both the cannon and rifle going off in mid-ka-bang. Excellente! What shutter speed did you use?
I've used a motor drive to catch cannon fire in mid-blast on Alamo Plaza but have totally fizzled out when trying to do the same thing with rifle volley fire.
You, though, don't seem to have that problem, so what's your secret?

I just set the camera on automatic and then hope for the best. I can't begin to count how many artillery blasts I've attempted to capture that came out as not but the puffs of smoke after the fact.

The very first reenactment of the Grass Fight at the San Antonio Memorial Library this past Saturday afternoon went reasonably well with over 125 spectators witnessing members of both SALHA and Primer Battalon de Mexico in action on the field and then doing living history for the balance of the time. (The library is located directly across the street from St. Mary's University at 3222 Culebra). There was a mixture of cavalry, infantry and artillery all trying to both retrieve, or defend the pack train. After a half an hour skirmish, Jim Bowie (Wade Dillon) and his men captured the pack train only to discover that it was but grass for the hungry horses of Mexican cavalry in San Antonio and not the expected Mexican pay shipment. Both the spectators and the participants had a lot of fun and there was a lot of fielding of questions by the curious all answered by the reenactors. Presidial lancer Andy Andersen.
