if you know when an event will take place anywhere in the country post it here to let people know. here is one that i go to every year, and it never stops to amaze, and it aint gettysburg!: Nesheminy State Park, its in pennsylvania, about 20 minutes fron the nj border. it is a great reenactment with a little under 1,000 reenacters. they have hundreds of tents, hundreds off settlers and guest speakers. also they have drills throughout the day and at around 4:00 they start the reenactment. for the first 45 minutes the reenacters go into the woods and fight(not for the people to watch) they they fall back onto the main field and fight for another hour, its great! i dont remember the exact date but it is late in april, a friday, saturday and sunday; saturday being the biggest.

i also forgot to mention that i was part of the 2nd day reenactment at gettysburg for the 139th anniversary. even though i was only twelve one of the guys with the cannons came up to me during the break between battles and he said that he had an extra blue artillery coat that i could wear behind the cannons during the reenactment. so i did. dring the battle i stood behind the cannon and was part of it. i didnt stand out because i had blue pants, a blue keppi, and black sneakers and with that coat he gave me i looked just like one of them.

NESHEMINY STATE PARK RE-ENACTMENT
I THINK THAT IT IS THE LAST WEEKEND IN APRIL. I HAVE BEEN THERE FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS AND IT IS GREAT... MAYBE EVEN BETTER THAT GETTYSBURG'S. EACH YEAR THEY PICK A DIFFERENT BATTLE. LAST YEAR WAS COLD HARBER AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT WAS SALEM CHURCH. FOR THE REENACTMENT YOU GET TO GO REAL CLOSE TO THE BATTLE. WITH A FEW FEET ACTUALLY.
SORRY FOR THE caps.

That was a pretty good episode. I've never seen a re-enactment, but I would love to see one.

My Great, great, great grandfather lost his leg at Cold Harbor. I have his officers lapel button.. ...but, not the leg? My great-great grandfather Thomas E. Turner was at the Battle of Vicksburg. Thankfully, he survived; otherwise, I would not be typing right now.

Here's the 11th Texas Cavalry (CSA) schedule. One of the organizers is Will Gibson. Their big event is at an antebellum plantation house in Liendo, TX, west north west of Houston, in November each year. www.11texascav.org/schedule.shtml

Unfortunately, no. Currently, I do 1745 Scottish Jacobite re-enactments with my pipes. Also, I'm trying to kit up (very poor progress here) as an 1830's Texian re-enactor. Regardless, Will Gibson has asked me to participate in a particular battle where pipers played over the dead. He will see to my kit. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Mac.......I take it that you do Culloden re-enacts? What do you think of the BBC (1960?) version of the battle? I first saw it in the early 70s. I thought it was pretty good. It told a lot about British tactics of that period.

On Dec. 6th, 1846, there was a battle fought between US forces led by Stephen Kearny against the crack forces of Don Andres Pio Pico in the San Pasqual Valley in present day Escondido, Ca., 30 miles north of San Diego. I'm attaching a fairly lengthy account giving the history of what led up to the battle and the battle. It paints Kearny in a very unfavorable light, saying it was a battle that needn't have taken place and was maybe for his ego more than anything else and of his low regard for the Mexican cavalry. He was so wrong. Around 35 American troops died in this battle. They were saved by Kit Carson, their scout, making his way to San Diego for help. The San Pasqual Valley is a beautiful valley today filled with orange and avocado orchards, among other farming and ranching concerns. The Mule Hill they speak of overlooks Lake Hodges in Escondido. After they gave up their position on Mule Hill, they camped in what today is known as Kit Carson Park, a park where I used to spend a lot of time watching my kids' soccer and baseball games. There is a reenactment of the battle every December. Here's the account. www.militarymuseum.org/SanPasqual.html

I read my Texas hometown newspaper online every day. In today's paper there was an article about a Civil War battle that most people in the state know little about. It was the Battle of Sabine Pass, about 10 miles from Port Arthur, Tx. I'll attach the article and something else if I can find it, but basically, there was a small garrison at Sabin Pass that was commanded by Dick Dowling, a Confederate Officer. It was an important garrison during the CW. Dowling and his men whipped the Union warships. Here's the ariticle in the paper: www.panews.com/local/local_story_251184212.htmlAnd this: www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/sabine_pass_battleground/hist.phtml
