Coinciding with the release of THE ALAMO, in 1960, reknowned Orchestra leader Tex Beneke did a tribute album called MUSIC FROM THE FILM THE ALAMO. What's neat about this record is that it contains selections from the film that did not apperar on the original Columbia release of THE ALAMO soundtrack. The tracks, OLD MEXICO, REVERIE and SANTA ANNA'S VICTORY MARCH are incidental music that bore listening to the first time around. The track OLD MEXICO is the background music to the "Oh Davy, if you only knew Mexico..." scene. It was finally added to the extended soundtrack of THE ALAMO in 1990, I believe. While REVERIE is Crockett/ Flaca material, I cannot place the SANTA ANNA'S VICTORY MARCH cut. It almost seems inappropriate for THE ALAMO. The other Tex Beneke cuts include both intrumental nd vocal versions of BALLAD OF THE ALAMO, GREEN LEAVES OF SUMMER, TENNESSEE BABE and HERE'S TO THE LADIES. All in all, it is a fun record and an obviously loving tribute to both Wayne and his Alamo film by a proud Texan.
